Xcel Energy – Planned  Electricity Shutoffs

Xcel Energy Customers in the Front Range

To reduce the risk of wildfire and support public safety, Xcel Energy may conduct periodic public safety power shutoffs (PSPS) in order to inspect lines and repair damage and users may need assistance without access to refrigerators or medical equipment.

Xcel customers can look up home addresses on the Xcel outage map to find out if your household may be affected by this PSPS event.

Xcel Energy will continue to contact customers directly with up-to-date information about PSPS occurances including estimated times for restoration in their area.

Potential for Extended Power Outages

Please be aware that restoring power after a significant weather event or a Public Safety Power Shutoff may take several hours to several days. This is because crews must first inspect power lines and repair any damage before electricity can be safely restored.

Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) Activated

Power lines, often times, may be adjusted with Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS).

This means:

  • Power lines are now more sensitive.
  • They will automatically stop the flow of electricity immediately if an issue, like a tree branch touching the line, is detected.
  • This is an extra step to improve public safety during high-risk conditions.

Prepare for Potential Power Outages

We strongly encourage all Xcel customers to plan for potential power outages later this week. This is especially critical for those who rely on electricity for medical equipment or health-related needs.

We encourage you to:

  • Medical Needs: Have backup power sources ready for any medical devices.
  • Essentials: Charge cell phones and portable batteries now.
  • Information: Visit Xcel website for more detailed tips on how to prepare for an outage or call (800) 895-4999 (Xcel Customer Service).
