In-Person Filing
Households with income of $57,000 or less in 2021 can file for free:
- File in person at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Sites throughout tax season (January – April).

Do It Yourself Filing Online
File free online at MyFreeTaxes.com.
My Free Taxes is a service of the United Way and is a great option if you want to file your taxes yourself. The online platform will guide you through every step and make sure you get all the cash-back tax credits you are eligible for.
You will need access to a computer and a valid email address to use My Free Taxes. The average tax return usually takes about an hour.
Remote Filing
Households that make less than $66,000 a year can file remotely with the help of a tax professional by visiting GetYourRefund.org
Snap a picture of your tax documents, upload images to the secure site, then get matched with a tax pro who will call you to file your return remotely. Great for filers who do not have access to a computer, but do have access to a smartphone.
Tax Credits
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
A cash-back credit worth up to $6,728 available to working families. Eligibility for EITC depends on several factors such as filing status, income level, the number of qualifying children in the household, and citizenship.

PTC Rebate
A state tax credit that provides Property/Rent/Heat credits for low-income seniors and disabled individuals.
Child Tax Credit
A Federal tax credit worth up to $3,600 for each child under the age of 6 and $3,000 for each child ages 6 to 17 claimed on a tax return.
This is now fully refundable with no minimum income requirements. Parents may file for this credit with an ITIN number as long as the child(ren) have a Social security Number(s).

The Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit
A federal tax credit to help families pay for childcare while they are working or looking for employment. Also available to families that must pay for the care of a spouse or adult dependent who is incapable of caring for themselves.
American Opportunity Tax Credit
A credit worth $2,500 per eligible student per year, to assist students and families with expenses incurred during the first four years of post-secondary education.
Lifetime Learning Credit
A credit worth up to $2,000 per eligible student per year, to help students pay for expenses such as tuition, books, and supplies during post-high school education.
Saver’s Tax Credit
The “Credit for Qualified Retirement Savings Contributions”, rewards employees who make contributions to a retirement plan or Individual Retirement Plan (IRA). This can be worth 10 to 50 percent of a maximum $2,000 contribution.

ITIN Renewal
Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITINs) are issued by the IRS for individuals who aren’t eligible for a social security number and need to file their taxes. All ITINs eventually expire and will need to be renewed.
All ITINs not used on a federal tax return at least once in the last three years will expire on December 31, 2021.
